Adam M. Geary is an anti-disciplinary scholar coming out of the History of Consciousness tradition of the University of California at Santa Cruz (Ph.D. 2004). His training is in critical theory, continental philosophy, and psychoanalysis, attentive to the persistence of the religious in the structurings of knowledge, subjectivity, and violence. His object of inquiry has been the US AIDS epidemic. Geary's first book, Antiblack Racism and the AIDS Epidemic: State Intimacies (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), examined the role of antiblack state violence in producing the social vulnerability and embodied susceptibility to HIV infection that have organized the US AIDS epidemic.

Professor Geary retired from the University in 2020.
