Barbara Kosta received her Ph.D. in German from the University of California, Berkeley.

She is the author of Recasting Autobiography: Women's Counterfictions in Contemporary German Literature and Film (Cornell UP, 1994), and co-editor of Writing Against Boundaries: Gender, Ethnicity and Nationality in the German-speaking Context (Rodopi, 2003). Her most recent book Willing Seduction: The Blue Angel, Marlene Dietrich, Mass Culture will appear with Berghahn Books.

Her research and teaching interests are Weimar cinema and visual culture, transnational cinema, contemporary literature and film, feminist theory and cultural studies.
