Myra Dinnerstein, Ph.D.
Myra Dinnerstein was the founding director of the Women’s Studies department at the University of Arizona in 1975 and the founding director of its research institute, SIROW (the Southwest Institute for Research on Women}in 1979. She served in those posts until 1989 when she became Research Professor of Women’ Studies. In 1982, Dinnerstein helped found the Association for Women Faculty, a group focused on issues such as pay equity, tenure and work overload as they related to women. Dinnerstein’s book Women Between Two Worlds: Midlife Reflections of Work and Family was published in 1992. Dinnerstein also chaired the University of Arizona’s Commission on the Status of Women for five years, she served as the co-chair of the Millenium Committee, a University-wide committee. Its report outlined ways to improve the climate for women and minorities at the University. She retired in 2003 and is now Research Professor Emerita.
